Learning from NASCAR

You may not be a racing fan or may be an open wheel racing fan and have no particular fascination with NASCAR, but there are many things you can learn from them.

The NASCAR sport has really taken off in the past few years and become a huge industry in itself. What other sporting event draws over a 100,000 people in a weekend? None that I can think of.

So, what have I learned from NASCAR? The most inspiring thing to me is that the stars of the sport act human. If you watch any of the shows on Speed Network you quickly find that these guys are just like you and I. They are just really good at driving a car really fast and knowing how to communicate back to his team on what the car needs to perform better.

Two things I get from that.

One, if these guys can get really good at driving a car really fast why can't I get really good at what I put my attention and focus to? Fact is, I can and so can you.

Two, with the right people around me if I can effectively communicate to them what it is that is needed to go faster, handle better, optimize pit strategies, etc. I too can be successful.

If you havn't looked at NASCAR lately, maybe it's time you did.

Until next time ...

The Art of Asking?

by Kevin March 7, 2006 13:50
When working these past few days on a project where we are creating a towing guide database to use on one of our RV Dealer's websites. It will be a really useful tool for people to choose their vehicle and see what units the dealer has that they can tow.

Anyway, in our quest to find towing data we've received different responses from the same people, depending on are communication method. This got me thinking about all the times when working on projects or business plans that just asking in the right way has made such a difference.

So, in your next quest think about what it is you really want and start asking in the right way. The right way might be a simple phone call. It might be a phone call and 3 follow-up emails. It might be a visit. Whatever it is, keep after it.

Until next time ... if at first you don't succeed try, try again!
